*In The Spirit of Intimacy, Sobonfu Somé says the Dagara people of Burkina Faso have no words for “gay”, “lesbian”, or “queer”. They do, however, have the word “gatekeeper.” People whose energies vibrate on particular frequencies are believed to be protectors of very important gates.
