the room: Afrofuturism as a path to our retroactive healing

Centering Black women and queer folk, this course explores the realities of living in chronic fear, individual, collective, and generational (epigenetic) trauma; and prioritizes creative, accessible, multidimensional responses and healing technologies to reframe, transmute and imagine beyond all that no longer serves us. Grounded in Womanism, Black Feminism, Afrofuturism, and Africana Spirituality, this work highlights, as Audre Lorde puts it “many kinds of power”, and invites us to gather, un-name, name, rest, revel, conjure, and align with our worthiness and divinity.

You will time-travel. You will elevate ancestors. You will marvel at, be with, and celebrate yourself. You will sense The South. You will understand that Blackness is queer, vast, and expansive. You will know Black women are inherently valuable. You will know our people are free.

This Sankofa Shadow Work is rooted in the intentions of my ancestors, my independent and academic scholarship, and my interdimensional Black life.
